Isaiah 5
Isaiah chapter 5 begins with a parable of a vineyard-owner. We will look at
that section today during the men's lunch at Emilio's (12:00 - 1:00, hope
you can join us).
Verses 18-23 is a "woe to" section. I think this is the opposite of a "Blessed be" section (like Matthew chapter 5), in that blessed means happy, woe means unhappy. Verse 18 tels us, "Woe to those who drag
iniquity with the chords of falsehood, and sin as if with cart ropes".
The picture is of a man who feels tied to his circumstances. Bound to his sin. Forever lugging around his hurt and shame everywhere he goes... But
look at the verse again and you will see what the ropes are made of - falsehood.
Drop the ropes my friend, they don't hold you - you hold them. Jesus says, "The truth will set you free."

How appropriate that just this morning we were praying over a person who felt bound and ashamed by her sin. God told us if we turn our eyes and our hearts to Him, he will remember our sins no more. He will set us on a path that we no longer have to look behind us again. Only look forward to Him and the promise of the resurrection. Hee hee. Simply awesome!
