Isaiah 44
Isaiah has a knack for beginning his statements with an impressive thought. Chapter 44 is no different. Look at the first couple of verses and you will get a feel for what is to come. Verse 2, "Thus says the Lord who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you, do not fear, O Jacob My servant; and you Jeshurun whom I have chosen."
The language is comforting. Do not fear. I have chosen you. I formed you from the womb. I will help you. I know you, hear you, understand you, love you... That's the idea.
I want to focus on the names for a second. Notice that God refers to Israel as Jacob and Jeshurun. Why?
Jeshurun is a name used four times in the Bible. It is a nickname for the leadership or hierarchy of Israel. It would be like calling America, "Washington's People". This is God's way of tying Israel back to her roots. The message: There is a direct connection between the leaders and the nation.
How does that apply to us?
How will our leadership qualities be looked at in ten years? 100 years?
Are we being a blessing and transferring God's love to the next generation?
