Ezekiel 5

In Ezekiel 5, we learn of the impending judgment on Israel and the near complete destruction God has planned for any nation that refuses to turn back to the precepts of God.

God instructs Ezekiel through a living parable.  He tells Ezekiel to shave his head with a sword.  The hair will represent the people of Israel.

Let me point out a couple of thoughts about this illustration:

A sword is not used to cut hair - that would be like using a tow truck to remove a toy car from the mud.  It is overdone.  When God tells Ezekiel to use a sword as the means for cutting hair, He is saying that every detail will be overdone.  This is God's way of saying that He will be completely thorough.

Now let's look at "hair" as a symbol.

Hair is the crown of man.  It is meant to symbolize beauty and glory.  God is not saying He hates the people, He is saying that His concern is for glory.

Also, hair continues to grow, you cannot count the number of hairs you have and will have and have had...

So it is with God's love:  It is concerned with beauty and glory.  It is certainly eternal and, more than that, it is complete.

God's wrath is a terrible thing, but do not forget that it is directly associated with His love.  This is called grace.
