Ezekiel 15

Ezekiel 15 reminds us about what matters.

In the 15th chapter, God reminds Ezekiel of the vine.  He says that a vine branch is not as strong as a piece of wood from a tree.  That's fine - there are still uses for a vine branch.

Then God asks, what about a vine branch that has been burnt.  Set on fire, both inside and out.  What can that piece of wood be used for?  Nothing.

And thus we get a glimpse of God's strength evaluation material:  fire.

God is asking Ezekiel to evaluate his life.  God is asking Israel to evaluate their lives.  God is asking us to evaluate.

What survives the fire?

Storms in life will come.  We will be forced through the burning heat of the flames.  We are not promised easy.

What, in your life, will make it through the fire?  Character?  Humility?  Strength?  God's love?

As a closing thought:  God also mentions another type of wood.  One that, when burned by flames, does not disintegrate, but grows tougher.  Are you made of that?
