Philippians 4:20-23
"Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen. Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you. All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar's household. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit."
Paul is saying good bye for now. He credits God with all glory forever and ever, he reminds the Philippians to greet all of the saint, and then he says everyone over here says hi.
One very interesting point though: Paul tells the Philippians that Caesar's household greets them. Why is that significant? Remember where Paul is writing this letter. He is in prison. His guards? They are probably centurions of some sort. They belong to the army, therefore, Caesar. They would be called people in the service of Caesar or Caesar's household.
Why would they greet the Philippian church?
Paul is suggesting that they, the centurions, hold the Philippians up in some kind of esteem. How would they do that unless Paul has lifted them up?
Here is the final lesson from Paul to the Philippians: Lift up those who support you.
I would love to be there the day a centurion meets a Philippian. "I know all about the things you do for Paul, and for the cause of Christ! You are a hero of my faith, and we have never met."
Lift them up.
