Song of Songs 1:5-8

"I am black but lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like the curtains of Solomon.  Do not stare at me because I am swarthy, for the sun has burned me.  My mother's sons were angry with me; they made me caretaker of the vineyards, but I have not taken care of my own vineyard.  Tell me, oh you whom my soul loves, where do you pasture your flock, where do you make it lie down at noon?  For why should I be like one who veils herself beside the flocks of your companions?"
"If you yourself do not know, most beautiful among women, go forth on the trail of the flock and pasture your young goats by the tents of the shepherds."

Again, the first part of the verses are the bride speaking, the second is the chorus.

Here the bride speaks of how unworthy she is.  She is black - blackened by the sun.  This was not a good quality for women of the time.  She should have avoided the sun completely, but her brothers were mad at her.  Why?  Who knows, but they made her work in the vineyard and therefore she had no time to take care of her skin (her own vineyard).

Now something happens:  She sees this man and falls in love.  She wants to know everything about him.  "Where do you keep your sheep?"  (This is the bride's way of offering her place as a pasture, or offering kindness)

Often, when in the presence of Jesus, we do the same:  Admit to unworthiness (Wait and see how the groom responds), and provide a place of dwelling for the Lord's work.

Your challenge today:  take the advice of the chorus of women.  If you do not know where the Lord is, look where his servants are camped.  Maybe today, you would ask a servant of God where Jesus is.  The response might enlighten you.  It might challenge you.
