Song of Songs 1:15-17
"How beautiful you are, my darling, how beautiful you are! Your eyes are like doves."
"How handsome you are, my beloved, and so pleasant! Indeed our couch is luxuriant! The beams of our house are cedars, our rafters, cypresses."
The first quote is from the Groom. The second from the bride.
Three points of interest here:
Do you notice what lengths the groom goes to in order to tell his beloved of her beauty? This is a short letter, but the groom mentions twice in these verses the bride's beauty.
When the bride tells the groom that their couch is luxuriant, she is saying that their times of closeness and togetherness are poetic and lavish.
The beams and rafters are a reference to the house, but also to the home. The house is a reflection of the solidity of the marriage. Cedars and Cypress trees are signs of stability. The bride can rest in their love.
Both the bride and the groom spend time complimenting each other. If you want a solid relationship, you will do the same. It is also true of how God treats us. How often He whispers words of encouragement when no one else will. Perhaps God, like the groom, mentions our beauty twice in order to fortify the thought in our minds.
Our challenge today: Meditate on the times that God has mentioned something to you twice. Why do you think He would go to such lengths to remind you?
