Song of Songs 4:7-9

"You are all together beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.  Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, may you come with me from Lebanon.  Journey down from the summit of Amana, from the summit of Senir and Hermon, from the dens of lions, from the mountains of leopards.  You have made my heart beat faster, my sister, my bride;  You have made my heart beat faster with a single glance of your eyes, with a single strand of your necklace."

This quote is the groom, as he compliments his bride.

What we see here is the groom asking the bride to be his wife.  The reason this is so beautiful is that it is completely unnecessary.  The groom, Solomon, has already arranged the wedding with the bride's parents.  The culture does not require that he even speak to his bride.  He has done enough - she is his wife as far as everyone is concerned.

He shows up on her doorstep with a parade of mighty men.  He has prepared a place for her.  He has arranged all with the parents.  The bride, at this point, is obligated to go with her groom.

Instead of assumption, the groom asks his bride to go with him.

In the church today, we call that invitation;  and it is exactly what Jesus has done with you.  Leave the valleys and mountain and deserts and lion's dens - come into My rest.

Our challenge today is to say yes.
