Song of Songs 4:13-15

"Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates with choice fruits, henna and nard plants, nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all the trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, along with all the finest spices.  You are a garden spring, a well of fresh water, and streams flowing from Lebanon."

Here the groom continues to praise his bride.

In essence, the groom has compared his bride to a garden.  Here we see the final touches to this comparison.  Solomon tells her of the many fragrances he senses when she is near.  This is not just his way of saying that she smells nice - it is his way of saying that there is a bounty of memories that fill him every time she draws near.  She reminds him of a great walk in the orchard, a day on the spice boat, the kitchen of the king... all at the same time - she is so rich and he is drinking it all in.

Often, we think salvation is only about me - when really it is about God's love for all of us.  This is why I am not alone in God's grace, but that it extends to all of us.  Alone, I am a sweet fragrance to God.  Together, we are a bounty of smells pleasing unto the Lord.

Today, our challenge is to work in community.
