Song of Songs 4:16
"Awake, oh north wind, and come, wind of the south; make my garden breathe out fragrance, let its spices be wafted abroad. May my beloved come into his garden and eat its choice fruits!"
This quote is the bride's response to the groom's praise.
The groom has compared his bride with a garden, and she responds in the context of that illustration.
A garden grows - the bride's love grows. A garden is protected - the bride is protected. A garden is pleasing, through smells and tastes and appearance - Solomon has just finished telling the bride that she is the same.
And the bride agrees with Solomon; she is pleasing. Then she challenges the winds of the north and the south to carry that pleasing aspect abroad. What does this mean? In effect, she is saying that because Solomon loves her with such intensity that love will abound. In other words, the love that he has invested in her will naturally spill over to all those around them.
Love is unable to be contained.
So it is with the love of Christ. When Jesus loves you, invests in you, protects and guards you, that love flows to all around. It is like fire shut up in your bones, it is like a mustard seed ready to grow...
But in order for it to flow out from us, we must first accept it. That is our challenge today. Accept love in a way you have not accepted before. Learn someone's love language and listen to that language.
