Proverbs 2

2.  "Make your ear attentive to wisdom, incline your heart to understanding;"
7.  "He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity."
11.   "Discretion will guard you, understanding will watch over you."

Solomon begins this proverb by suggesting that wisdom is to be searched after.  This is not to say it is hard to find, but that few look for it.  Verse 4 says that it is like silver, it is like hidden treasure - only the pioneer searches for these things.

The question:  Why would man search for wisdom?

There are a few answers to this question found within the book of Proverbs.  Proverbs two speaks of protection.  Wisdom guards us.

Do you feel protected by wisdom?  If so, how?

Verse 7 tells us that the Lord is our shield through wisdom.  Then verse 11 tells us discretion will guard us.  Guard us from what?  The rest of the proverb gives a list of things wisdom will protect you and I from:  Things like crooked people, strange and adulterous women, flattery, the perverse man...

"Lord, let me search for Your wisdom today, and let your wisdom be a shield to my heart and mind.  Amen."
