Proverbs 9

"She [wisdom] has sent out her maidens, she calls from the tops of the heights of the city:  Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!  To him who lacks understanding she says, 'Come eat of my food and drink of the wine I have mixed.  Forsake your folly and live, and proceed in the way of understanding.'" vss. 3-6

Proverbs 9 tells us again, in verse 10, that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord.  This proverb also tells us that knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.  But the main point of this proverb is to tell us about the outreaching nature of wisdom.

Verse 1 tells us that wisdom has built a house.  Verses 3-6 tell us that wisdom stands outside of that house calling for people to come in.  The picture painted here shows wisdom inviting people to safety.  The suggestion:  Wisdom keeps us from harm, and it does so by being active in bringing people to safety.

How active are you in seeking wisdom?  How hungry are you for knowledge of the Lord?  How much do you want the safety that can only come with understanding of the Holy One?

"Lord, renew our minds today.  Help us flee from conformity and run to the safety of Your transformational power.  Amen."
