Proverbs 30
5. "Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him."
6. "Do not add to His words or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar."
32. "If you have been foolish in exalting yourself or if you have plotted evil, put your hand on your mouth."
33. "For the churning of milk produces butter, and pressing the nose brings forth blood; so the churning of anger produces strife."
This proverb is attributed to Agur the son of Jakeh, the oracle.
In this proverb, Agur points out some miracles in nature that attest to God's glory. Things we often miss. His point is that every thing God produces is amazing! He also speaks of the destructive nature of lies and foolishness. Verses 15 through 17 speak of the all consuming waste of covetousness.
In that same line of thought, Agur tells us to keep our mouths shut if we are plotting evil or if we have been foolish.
The modern proverb is similar: If you cannot say something nice about someone...
How do we test the words of God? How does God prove His word is true?
"Lord, move us toward compassion and strength. Let us take lessons from Your creation. Amen."
