Mark 2:1-12
The story of the paralytic man is actually a story about faith.
Jesus tells a man that he is forgiven because of the faith of his friends. That is enough to keep us thinking forever. How much is my faith reliant on those around me? How much do my friends lift me up and take care of me, when I am unaware? Am I the kind of friend that leads people to the forgiveness of their sins?
The Scribes that were in attendance saw something different.
First, let's acknowledge the fact that these scribes were intending to capture Jesus in some form or fashion. They were not simply listening to the great Teacher.
They begin to grumble - Does this man have the right to forgive sins? Isn't that a sin itself? Jesus answers them - what is easier, to forgive each other or to heal?
What do you think the answer to that question is?
Why did Jesus go on to heal this man?
What if Jesus had not been challenged? Would He have healed the paralytic?
