Mark 4:35-41
The miracle we see is the one where Jesus calms the storm. But there is something else in this text.
Jesus, at ease in the storm.
Perhaps this is the lesson Jesus is trying to teach His disciples. Not that control is necessary, but that comfort is possible. When we are faced with life's storms, we tend to default to fear. We ask for God's help, we pray, we cry out. These are all ways that we place our trust in God - but we have an opportunity to get there another way. By trusting in God for sending the storm.
Instead of saying, "God, remove the storm," maybe we should say, "God - remove my fear - let me rest, like Jesus did, in your providence."
Jesus looks at His disciples in the storm and says, "How is it that you have no faith?" I wonder if, when the storm began, Jesus thought, "Oh, God, what a great lesson to teach the 12. How to be faithful in the storms."
