Mark 7:9-13

This is the continuation of Jesus' conversation with the Pharisees and scribes about the difference between tradition and commandment of God.

Jesus is trying to realign he paradigm that has been directing the Pharisees and entire religious community.  He brings the Pharisees face to face with a question of integrity:  What is more important, doing things the way you think is right, or doing things the way God wants them done?

This same question pops into our heads every time we look through the old testament at times of Israelite war.

We are also effected by this question when we see Peter and the sheet full of unclean animals in Acts.

The question we are left with, then , is - how do we know the difference?  Jesus answers that question with His quote from Isaiah 29 - "This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me..."

Is your heart searching for what God wants?  Searching to be near God?  To walk in the presence of the Lord almighty?
