Nahum 2
1. The One who scatters has come up against you. Man the fortress, watch the road; strengthen your back, summon all your strength.
2. For the Lord will restore all the splendor of Jacob like the splendor of Israel, even though devastators have devastated them and destroyed their vine branches.
Here is the point of the book of Nahum: The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. He is the sole being in charge of blessings. It is at God's discretion as to whom will see prosperity.
That said, God looks for a certain type of person to bless. This person, or nation, does not necessarily always end up in prosperity, but often does. Also, God often allows destruction for nations that directly disobey.
The example at hand is Nineveh (quite possibly the representation of the entirety of the Assyrian nation).
Nineveh has experienced great revival - but they seem to have lost their first Love. God is no longer feared in their land, and God notices!
Verse 2, written above, speaks of the restoration that is possible under God's mercy. This mercy is offered to Israel, the nation that is seeking God's blessing. Which leads us to our question for the day:
Are you seeking restoration today?
