Micah 1:1-4

"The word of the Lord which came to Micah of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.  Hear, O peoples, all of you; listen, O earth and all it contains, and let the Lord God be a witness against you, the Lord from His holy temple.  For behold, the Lord is coming forth from His place.  He will come down and tread on the high places of the earth.  The mountains will melt under Him and the valleys will be split, like wax before the fire, like water poured down a steep place."

Micah's name means, "he who is like Jehovah"

Micah begins his prophetic word by reminding the people of Samaria that God is sovereign.  He also tells the people that there needs to be some changes in their lives.  The message here is repent.

Now - we all know this to be true, but rarely do we want to hear it.

The point of the first chapter of Micah is to instigate change.  Micah does this by showing us a picture of a God who is "on the way here."  He will tread on the high places and split the valleys.  He will bring His wrath and glory and character and love.  All for a time of holy visitation.  God with us.

Jesus draws near.
