Acts 1:21-26

"So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when He was taken up from us - one of these must become a witness with us to His resurrection,  So they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias.  Then they prayed and said, 'Lord, You know everyone's heart.  Show us which one of these two You have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.'  And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles."

Time to step up.

Peter, looking for the man to replace Judas, describes the qualifications of an apostle.  He says the man must have accompanied them where they went.  In other words - this man should have heard most of the teachings of Jesus.

The man must become a witness to Jesus resurrection.  So, he must be able to tell people that Jesus is alive.

In the church today, we have a lot of people who are ready for this assignment, but never take it.  Many of us have heard the teachings of the Holy Spirit.  Many have been witness to the fact that Jesus is alive.  Many are ready to take the step toward being a disciple of Jesus.  Yet, few take the step completely.

Peter found these men, Matthias and Justus, who were ready.  They stepped into leadership simply because they knew God was alive.  They led the people of God because God was real to them.  We need men and women like this today.

Does this describe the way you act?
