Acts 2:7-13

"They were amazed and astonished, saying, 'Why, are not all those who are speaking Galileans?  And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?  Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs - we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God.'  And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, 'What does this mean?'  But others were mocking and saying, 'They are full of sweet wine.'"

Jesus had just told His apostles, in Acts 1:8, that they would be effective in the lands beyond their homes.  Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, even the remotest parts of the earth.

Here, the apostles are seen with flaming tongues above them.  Every word they speak is heard by the crowd surrounding them in that person's language.

Who could do this thing with the tongues?  Only God.  Who could move fishermen to change the world?  Only God.  Who could bring so many to hear the word of the Lord?  Who could orchestrate great revival?  Who could fill the world with perplexity and amazement?  Only God.

Who knew, that when God told the apostles that they would change the world around them, beginning in Jerusalem, that God Himself would do the work.

How is God working in your life today?
