Acts 2:43-47

"And everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.  And all those who had believed were together, and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions, and were sharing with them all, as anyone might have need.  And day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God, and having favor with all the people.  And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved."

Often we look at this passage as a church growth plan.  This is not the point at all.  Peter is not telling every church to act the same way; he is telling us what they did to love each other.  This is how the early church acted to make God's love real in their lives.

They shared food, resources, profits, etc...  They shared everything they could share, all for the sake of showing God's presence.

One thing I find remarkable is the early church's reputation with the people.  Verse 47 tells us that they had favor with all.  How is that possible?

Clearly they did not live to propagate their own agenda, but God's.

This is a lesson for today's church.  Find a way to have favor with your town.  Do whatever it takes to show what God's love looks like.

Connection to people = connection to God.
