Acts 19:1-7

"And it came about that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper country came to Ephesus, and found some disciples, and he said to them, 'Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?'  And they said to him, 'No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.'  And he said,'Into what then were you baptized?'  And they said, 'Into John's baptism.'  And Paul said, 'John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.'  And when they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.  And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying.  And there were in all about twelve men."

There is a reason why doctrine is important in the church.  Good, solid doctrine leads to a better knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Paul comes upon some disciples in Ephesus.  He asks them a couple of questions because he wants to know exactly where they are in their faith.  When they tell him that they have been baptized, but in John's baptism, he must pause.

John was a great man - but he is dead.  Jesus is the center of our faith.  Jesus is the center of our baptism.

Apollos did not know that when he baptized these men.  But now, there was some correction to be done.

All of us need correction at times as well.  Praise God for these disciples who accepted it readily.

Today, maybe you would find a way to have your doctrine strengthened.  Go to church.  Talk to a minister.  Speak with a counselor.  Pray that God speaks to you.  Read a tough section of the Bible...
