Ruth 2:1-7
"Now Naomi had a kinsman of her husband, a man of great wealth, of the family of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, 'Please let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after one in whose sight I may find favor.' And she said to her, 'Go, my daughter.' So she departed and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers, 'May the Lord be with you.' And they said to him, 'May the Lord bless you.' Then Boaz said to the servant in charge of the reapers, 'Whose young woman is this?' The servant replied, 'She is the young Moabite woman who returned with Naomi from the land of Moab. And she said, "Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves." Thus she came and has remained from the morning until now; she has been sitting in the house for a little while.'"
We learn a lot about Boaz in this transaction. It was certainly not a requirement for the wealthy land owner to come and check on his servants. Even less customary was Boaz's greeting: The Lord be with you. In fact, it is even remarkable that the servants answered Boaz with a blessing.
Boaz is clearly wealthy, but still spends time in the field. It is because of this investment that he meets Ruth.
Here is where we see a God characteristic. God also gets His hands dirty. He is clearly the Lord of all creation and can build or destroy as a simple act of His will. But instead of lording over all of us, He walks with us. He dies the way humans do, all so He can show His power over death.
The fact that Boaz walks with his servants is a remarkable blessing to them and to him.
The fact that God walks with His people far exceeds any blessing we could strive toward.
