Ruth 4:18-22
"Now these are the generations of Perez: To Perez was born Hezron, and to Hezron was born Ram, and to Ram, Amminadab, and to Amminadab was born Nahshon, and to Nahshon, Salmon, and to Salmon was born Boaz, and to Boaz, Obed, and to Obed was born Jesse, and to Jesse, David."
The book of Ruth ends with a promise... with hope.
Every good Hebrew boy and girl knew their connection with history. They could track their way back to Abraham.
There was a reason for this knowledge. It was hope.
See, every good Hebrew child knew that someday Messiah would come. They trusted that God's promise was correct and that Messiah would be born of one of Abraham's heirs. They looked forward to that.
As a result, many Hebrew people believed that their children were special. It was a great way to look at their family.
Ruth ends by looking at the family tree of David. They would hope that David was special. They would hope that David would be a son after God's heart. They would hope that David would be able to look at his heritage and see Godliness.
They would treat their son and grandson like he was a gift that might usher in the kingdom of God.
We should treat our children the same.
