Peace for Monday
Matthew 1:18-19 - "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows. When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with Child by the Holy Spirit. And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her, desired to put her away secretly."
We know little about Joseph, but Matthew's description tells us all that we need: Joseph was described as a righteous man.
Admittedly, righteous can have broad meaning. Who thinks he is righteous? What are the standards of righteousness?
But the Bible qualifies the idea by saying that he does not want to disgrace her.
Thus we see a glimpse of what righteousness is: The desire to lift another up, instead of tearing them down.
Who do you love enough to lift them up? Would you lift them up instead of yourself?
If peace is knowing that your future is secure, how can you transfer peace to another?
Has loving another ever hurt your reputation like it did Joseph's?
