Repeat that Please
Genesis 3:1 - "Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made, and He said to the woman, 'Indeed, has God said, "You shall not eat from any tree of the garden."?'"
First, it is interesting that we often attribute this interaction to Satan, when it is so clearly a serpent that is questioning God. 10 points for you if you can figure out why we always say that this is the Devil.
What is the question that leads to the fall of man and the exile from the garden home? "Has God told you anything about these trees?" "Are you allowed to eat of their fruit?" "Are you supposed to enjoy what God has made?"
We often struggle with these same questions: "What does God say about _______ (fill in the blank with marriage, a new job, sin, love, dating...)" "Are you supposed to have a part in His creation? (I'm reminded of, 'If man were meant to fly, he would have wings')" "How much pleasure should I take in God's creation? (What is the difference between drinking to get drunk and drinking to enjoy what God has created?)"
The truth is, the serpent asked the correct question: What has God said?
Our answer to that, just like Eve's answer, determines our bent toward sin.
Communication with God means EVERYTHING to our safety from our sin.
